Facts about Jurong Regional Library

...

Our History

Our library was opened on 1 August 1988 as the Jurong East Community Library by Mr Ho Kah Leong, then Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Communications & Information) and Member of Parliament for Jurong Constituency. We were refurbished in 2004, and officially reopened on 4 Jun 2004 as the Jurong Regional Library by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, then Acting Minister for Education. Our library occupies four floors and a basement, with a total floor area of 12,020 square metres.

Interesting Facts

  • Our library is the first public library in Singapore with a skylight incorporated into its structure.
  • We are the first to use a unique energy-saving reflector light technology where high-reflecting aluminium mirrors save up to fifty percent of the energy used in conventional lighting.
  • A water feature at the atrium was built to create a conducive ambience and environment for users of all ages to read and learn.
