The Battle for Merger

Lee Kuan Yew

A reprint of the speeches and originally issued in 1962 of the 12 radio broadcasts aired over Radio Singapore between 13 September 1961 and 9 October 1961 by then-prime minister Lee Kuan Yew on the possible merger with Malaya. The talks aimed to expose the Communists − including their ideology and modi operandi − and reveal their intentions for opposing merger with the Federation of Malaya. This was challenging time when Singapore was in a precarious position and its future of Singapore was hanging in the balance. Complete with photographs of historical events as well as reproductions of secret letters and codes, this book also includes new material to give a comprehensive coverage on the intriguing subject of merger between Singapore and Malaysia.
