Can I sign up for library membership online?

Singaporeans, Permanent Residents and Foreigners with a Singpass account may sign up for library membership online at https://account.nlb.gov.sg.

For registrations that are not supported via the online platform, please seek assistance from 11am - 6pm at any public library (except library@chinatown and The LLibrary) with the relevant document(s).

 

Can I sign my child up for library membership online?

Parents with a Singpass account may sign-up for their children online if the child is a Singaporean/Permanent Resident.

  • Permanent Residents & Foreigners attending schools under the Ministry of Education and below 21 Years can apply for basic membership for free.
  • Seek assistance from 11am - 6pm at any public library (except library@chinatown and The LLibrary) with the relevant document(s).

 

What do I need to sign up for library membership online?

Singaporeans, Permanent Residents and Foreigners with a Singpass account may sign up for library membership at https://account.nlb.gov.sg.

Foreigners with a Singpass account may sign up and/or renew their annual library membership online. For new registration or renewal of membership, the relevant document(s) must be valid for at least three months at the time of registration/renewal.

 

Can I sign up for library membership online when I am overseas? Will a One-Time Pin (OTP) be sent?

Yes, you may sign up online with your Singpass when you are overseas. An OTP is not required to complete the registration unless you have selected SMS 2FA as the 2FA option in your Singpass account.

 

If I sign up for membership online, when will the membership be activated?

Your membership will be activated immediately upon successful registration if you are a Singaporean, or upon payment of the registration and/or membership fee(s) if you are a PR or a foreigner.

Membership and/or registration fees apply from the day of registration, which is when membership begins. Enjoy full borrowing privileges when payment is made. Fees and charges are not refundable.

 

Will I receive a library card upon successful registrations 

All library members will receive an eCard which can be accessed in the NLB Mobile app (downloadable from the App Store or Google Play Store) or use any library compliant card.

Once you have signed into the app with a myLibrary username you may use the eCard to borrow library materials and pick up reserved materials.

Only applicants under the age of 7 will receive a membership card.

 

[For Foreigners Only] Can I renew my membership online?

Foreigners with a Singpass account may sign up and/or renew their annual library membership online.

For new registration or renewal of membership, relevant document(s) must be valid for at least three months at the time of registration/renewal.

Where can I sign up for library membership if I cannot use the online registration service?

Seek assistance from 11am - 6pm at any public library (except library@chinatown and The LLibrary) with the relevant document(s) if you do not have a Singpass account, or if you are signing up for a membership type which is not supported online.

I have recently signed up for a PAssion card which entitles me to a Partner Membership. What should I do to enjoy this membership?

PAssion card holders who are library members are eligible to upgrade to NLB Partner Membership to enjoy increased loan privileges.

PAssion card holders who are not library members may login with their SingPass to register for both the NLB Basic Membership and Partner Membership.

I can’t remember if I am a library member. Can I check my library membership online?

You may check online with Singpass or by entering your NRIC number.

The online service will inform you if you are a member. If not, it will prompt you to sign up for library membership.

 

I have completed the registration to be a library member. When and how can I start using library services?

  • Your membership is immediate upon successful registration if you are a Singaporean, or upon payment of the registration and/or membership fee(s) if you are a PR or a foreigner.
  • Download the NLB Mobile app to read eBooks, listen to audiobooks, and read current eNewspapers and eMagazines.
  • You will need to create a myLibrary username to use our digital services. Borrow books at our libraries with your eCard or use the scan-to-borrow function in the NLB Mobile app.

Why do I need a myLibrary username?

You need a myLibrary username and password to sign in to our digital library services and use them anytime, anywhere.

 

What can I do with a myLibrary username?

You need a myLibrary username to enjoy these digital library services:

 Various online service

This includes:

  • Checking your account
  • Accessing your loan history
  • Updating your contact details
  • Redeeming rewards and making reservations
 NLB Mobile App

 The app lets you:

  • Borrow books
  • Check your account
  • Pay fees / fines
  • Redeem rewards, e.g. Book Bugs cards
 Borrow or read digital items

E.g. eBooks, eNewspapers, eMagazines

 Access NLB's eResources 

E.g. research databases and eLearning tutorial videos

 Use the Multimedia Stations These are located at libraries and you can use them to access the Internet and surf NLB's websites 
 Receive alerts You will be alerted on loans, reservations, fees / fines and membership expiry (specifically for members who are foreigners), via SMS, email and / or the NLB Mobile app. 

 

You may also use a myLibrary username to:

  1. Borrow physical items at the libraries’ borrowing stations.
  2. Register for programmes.

 

Who can create a myLibrary username? How do I create one?

  • All library members, even children and babies, can have a myLibrary username.
  • Creating a myLibrary username will only take a few minutes! You may create it:
  • To complete the process, key in your email address and your mobile number, and you will receive a one-time password (OTP) on your mobile phone.

 

What do I need to take note of when creating my username and password?

  • Your username must contain six to 20 alphanumeric characters. You cannot use special characters nor your NRIC number. Your username cannot be changed once created.
  • Your password must have eight to 24 characters, and include one letter and one number.

 

I can’t remember if I have a myLibrary username. How can I check?

Use this online service and:

  • Sign in with your Singpass. The system will display your username if you have a myLibrary username. Otherwise, it will prompt you to create a myLibrary username.
  • Sign in with your NRIC / FIN number. We will send a one-time password (OTP) to either your mobile number or email address that you have previously registered with us. What should I do if I forget my username or password?

  • You can retrieve your username and reset your password online.
    • Sign in with your Singpass. The system will display your username and ask if you wish to reset your password.
    • Sign in with your NRIC / FIN number. We will send a one-time password (OTP) to either your mobile number or email address that you have previously registered with us. The system will display your username and ask if you wish to reset your password.
