Volunteer Criteria and Opportunities

Volunteers are the lifeline of kidsREAD. They help to inculcate good reading habits in children and help them discover the joy of reading during the kidsREAD sessions.

Volunteer criteria:

  • At least 15 years old and above.
  • Willing to engage children 4 to 8 years old. 
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Willing to commit for at least 6 months.

 

Resources provided to volunteers:

  • Training for new volunteers on basic storytelling and basic reading aloud skills. 
  • Storytelling training videos.
  • Volunteer Resource Guidebook, which provides a detailed guide and suggestions on how each session can be carried out and the activities that can be done with the children.

 

The main aim for our volunteers is to get the children interested in books and to make reading a fun and enjoyable experience for them.

  • Comfortable handling preschool children aged 4 to 6 years old.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to be vaccinated.
  • Able to commit for a minimum of 6 months or until end of 2024 sessions.
  • Must attend a one-time kidsREAD volunteer training session onsite before volunteering.

  • 21 years old and above.
  • Comfortable handling preschool children aged 4 to 6 years old.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to be vaccinated.

4. West Friday Hong Kah North CC 8pm - 9pm 3 Jan 24 to Dec 24
  • 15 years old and above. Secondary schools students are welcome.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to be vaccinated.
  • Able to commit for a minimum of 6 months or until end of 2024 session.
