My Tree House

My Tree House, opened in 2013 at the National Library Building, is the world’s first Green Library for Kids. It was designed and retrofitted with sustainability in mind. My Tree House offers a collection of green-themed books and many educational and fun programmes to raise the awareness of environmental issues and promote green values amongst young minds.
This very special space for kids was born out of a collaboration between NLB and City Developments Limited (CDL), which rallied its like-minded green partners to support this ground-breaking effort.
My Tree House was birthed to encourage children to explore, discover and pique their curiosity in learning and caring for the environment. Eco-friendly building materials such as energy-efficient LED lighting, refurbished bookshelves and carpets with green properties were used for My Tree House, which is housed within the Central Public Library space. The canopy of the tree house centrepiece was built and installed with over 3,000 recycled plastic bottles collected from the public, schools and visitors to City Square Mall. Apart from designing and fitting out the library, CDL has been supporting NLB’s efforts in organising a wide range of exciting green educational programmes and Eco Storytelling Contests.
