Kam Kee Yong (b. 28 February 1938, Penang, Malaysia -) is known to many as a composer, violinist, conductor, artist, and, not least, as the father of violinist KamNing. He is often described as a self-made man, with values of hard work and a pioneering spirit. Kam led the Singapura String Orchestra and the People’s Association String Orchestra from the 1970s to 80s, nurturing a generation of musicians. He is a strong advocate for the performance of local compositions. Kam is also a prolific artist who paints on a variety of themes, some of which are whimsical or humorous, but yet serves as a social commentary on the lives we lead.
