Thondan, meaning Volunteer, was a bi-monthly magazine dedicated to the arts and literature, which commenced publication in January 1964. M Ilangkannan served as both editor and publisher of the magazine. Priced at 25 cents, each edition spanned 24 pages and featured diverse content, including editorials, essays, poetry, literary appreciation, cinema news, quotes, and a Q & A section. The magazine's address was 69-19, Thong Bee Road.
In the inaugural issue, the editorial noted the original intention to publish the magazine weekly. However, due to constraints related to printing, it was ultimately released as a bi-monthly publication. Despite this adjustment, the magazine ceased publication after just two issues. In a 1982 interview, Ilangkannan revealed that he had initiated the magazine in collaboration with poet Paranan but they encountered 'difficulties,' leading to the discontinuation of the magazine after the second issue.
