Mohamed Kasim Shanavas, known as Shanavas (b. 1959), is a Singaporean writer and recipient of the Singapore Literature Prize. He has published works across various genres, including short stories, essays, and poetry. He also serves as the chief editor of the monthly magazine The Serangoon Times. Shanavas was born in Natham Abiramam, India. He completed his schooling at Abiramam Muslim High School, earned an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Jamal Mohamed College, and obtained a Master's degree in Politics and Public Administration from Madurai Kamaraj University. After working for the Indian government for 14 years, he moved to Singapore in the early 1990s to take over his father's restaurant business. Since 1996, he has been managing his own restaurants.

Despite his business commitments, Shanavas has remained deeply engaged in literature. His involvement in a trade union and an art and literature forum in India fuelled his passion for writing. He has contributed to online and print magazines, including Tamil Murasu, focusing on Singapore's unique multicultural food culture and lifestyle. Shanavas is also the coordinator of Singapore Vasagar Vattam, a readers' circle, and continues to lead The Serangoon TimesSince 2010, Shanavas has published several collections of essays, poetry, and short stories. One of his poetry collections, Suvai Poruttandru (2016), was translated into English by Dr H M Saleem and published as Not Unto the Taste (2019). In addition to his own works, he has compiled and published a couple of Singaporean literary anthologies in 2017 and 2018. Shanavas has received numerous accolades, including the Singapore Literature Prize (2014), the Karikarcholan Award (2015), and the M K Ramachandra Book Prize (2016).
