Read! Fest 2019 Keynote Lecture

Khazanah persuratan Melayu tradisional adalah lautan luas yang amat besar nilainya tetapi belum diterokai dan diselami serta dimanfaatkan sepenuhnya untuk pembangunan masyarakat, negara dan manusia sejagat. Prof Madya Dr Hadijah akan berkongsi pengalaman beliau menjejaki warisan Melayu nusantara di United Kingdom, Belanda dan Amerika Syarikat, yang telah dibawa ke negara-negara tersebut lebih kurang 200 tahun lalu. Pelayaran ilmiah beliau ini di bawah Program Sarjana Pelawat Fulbright, di Universiti California Berkeley, Houghton Library, Universiti Harvard dan di Library of Congress, Washington (2002-2003); dan semasa beliau menjadi Fellow Bersekutu (Affiliated Fellow) di Institut Antarabangsa Pengajian Asia (IIAS), Universiti Leiden, Netherlands (2010) dan di School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Universiti London (2011). Penemuan dari pelayaran ini memberi pencerahan untuk kita mengetahui jalinan sejarah antara kuasa-kuasa Barat dengan Dunia Melayu, kesan-kesannya dalam kehidupan kini dan implikasinya pada masa akan datang.

Profesor Madya Dr Hadijah Rahmat adalah Ketua Kumpulan Akademik Bahasa dan Kebudayaan Asia, Institut Pendidikan Nasional (NIE), Universiti Teknologi Nanyang, Singapura. Beliau merupakan seorang cendekiawan yang terkenal dalam Pengajian Melayu-Indonesia, pendidik sastera dan budaya dan juga sasterawan yang diiktiraf. Beliau menerima ijazah Doktor Falsafah dari School of Oriental and African Studies,
University of London (1996). Di antara buku-buku beliau yang telah diterbitkan adalah In Search of Modernity: A Study of the Concepts of Literature, Authorship and Notions of Self in ‘Traditional’ Malay Literature (2001), The Last Kampong Mosque in Singapore – The Extraordinary Story and Legacy of Sembawang (2007); Kilat Senja: Sejarah Sosial dan Budaya Kampung di Singapura (2005) ; Burung Kenek-Kenek /The Little Birds: Poetry, Art and Song for Children (2010) dan Bunga Kasih Ibu/Moms Bouquet of Love: Poetry and Art for Children (2010) dan yang terbaru pengarang bersama untuk siri Singapore Chronicle: Literature (2018).
