Singapore Changi Airport is now the 6th busiest international passenger airport in the world. Since its opening in 1981, it has been acclaimed as the world’s best airport more than 500 times by various international rating agencies.
Join Liew Mun Leong, Chairman of Changi Airport Group, as he traces the development of Changi Airport from the beginning in 1975 when he was an engineer building the first runway system to the completion of Terminal 4 in 2016.
Mr Liew will also share about the achievements of Changi Airport, now one of Singapore’s proudest national icons.
About the Speaker
Liew Mun Leong has spent 22 years in the public service developing Changi Airport and military airports. He was involved in the construction of Changi Airport from the beginning in 1975. He was also the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Singapore Institute of Standards and Industrial Research, and the National Science and Technology Board. In the 1990s, he served as President of the International Organization for Standardisation.
In the private sector, Mr Liew has 24 years of experience leading 10 publicly listed companies that invest and develop real estate in Asia, the Middle East, the UK and Europe. In 2000, he became the founding Group President and CEO of CapitaLand Limited, a publicly listed real estate company. Under his leadership till 2012, CapitaLand has become one of the largest real estate groups in Asia.
Mr Liew currently chairs the Changi Airport Group, which is responsible for the operation and development of Changi Airport, and Surbana Jurong Group, a large consultancy group in urban and infrastructure development. He also chairs the boards of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School and Temasek Foundation Nurtures. Additionally, he serves on the boards of Singapore Exchange, Singapore China Foundation and the Chinese Development Assistance Council.
Mr Liew is the Provost's Chair and Professor (Practice) in the NUS Business School, the Faculty of Engineering and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. He is also the Rector of Ridge View Residential College at NUS.
