Composer-pianist Tze Toh will perform and share about the various kinds of improvised music, from jazz, contemporary, free form, groove-based, to Carnatic and classical music inspired improvisations. He will break down the art of improvisation, discussing the methods, theory and techniques behind creating music in the flow, discuss the common difficulties pianists and instrumentalists encounter in spontaneous music making, and also answer questions from the audience.

About the Artist
An exceptionally versatile composer/pianist, Tze Toh was described by The Straits Times as “an extraordinary musician whose idiom straddles comfortably between genres of classical, jazz, world and film music" who "possesses an original voice”. He has performed for the Spoiwa Kultury Festival (Poland), Edinburgh Fringe Festival performance, Delft Fringe Festival performance (Netherlands), IMEX (Indonesia Music Expo), SIFOM (Singapore International Festival of Music), Singapore Heritage Festival, Mosaic Music Festival Performance and ASEAN Jazz Festival.
Known for his unique original contemporary fusion music, his works draw inspiration from the various music he loves - from Carnatic music, jazz, film score to classical symphonic works, anime and video game soundtracks. He is influenced by the music of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Keith Jarrett, Ennio Morricone, Yoko Kanno and Igor Stravinsky and in particular, music of the ECM label.
