Information About

Sports days were elaborate affairs in Katong Convent. Weeks before the day itself, there would be long marches and grueling drill practices among co-curricular groups like the prefects and the girl guides. There were also musical interludes to practice for. Mrs Marie Bong, our Principal, was an avid believer of arts in motion. Thus choreographed dancing accompanied classical music. I still remembered having to wear a leotard and a little gauzy skirt to perform to Debussy’s “Clair De Lune”. It was not easy trying to sway my body gracefully to the melodious strain of that song in the tropical heat. I was quite sure others were moving about more elegantly than I was! Looking back, such activities fostered discipline, teamwork and an appreciation for music and the arts. The educators of Katong Convent (KC) were quite visionary. KC was like a mini SOTA way before SOTA was set up! Here are some pictures of our Sports Day! “Memories collected from the School Reunion Contest held from July 15 to 9 Aug 2012 in collaboration with SPH and sponsored by Singapore Flyer.”
