Sheila: Hi, I'm Sheila. Anne: Hello, I'm Ann. Catherine: I'm Cat. Ann: And we call ourselves… All: "By chance" Ann: Whenever we meet to sing by chance. Sheila: That's right. Ann: I think…I think first of all,I want to introduce Sheila. (Turned to Sheila) What do you do all these years? Sheila: I was singing in bands and I came from the East Coast. Ann: And I remember Sheila used to be from Hiburan Mingu ini, in the 90s. Sheila: in the 90s. Ann: I came from the group"Gingerbread" in the 80s,90s till 2000 and what about you Cat? Catherine: I had a all girl band. Yeah, in the late 70s and then join "When heaven know". Ann: So we knew each other all those years and we decided to come together once in a while and just perform as a group. That's how "By chance" is borned. Sheila: Funny incidents always happen with Cat. Ann:(mic tuned to Cat) No...You got to tell (mic turned to Sheila). Sheila: Alright, its either, its either the chair is very high when we sit down you know... either she's falling off the chair and I mean all those little things make it very memorable. That's why we love workingwith each other. Ann: I remember one time we were doing a show at the Esplanade, "Coffee Morning" and we usually have a routine wherebty we dance (hand gesture dancing) for people to laugh and we had planned it out and then Cat decided to do something else. Remember or not? (pointing to Cat) Catherine: I can't remember (Laughs). Ann: Yeah, and then she just do her own thing and then we like (puzzled expression). Ok then we have to follow her. That was funny. All: (Laughters). Interviewer: Who is the leader? All: We have no leader. Catherine: I think what makes us unique is that we respected each others' talents. And it was not a competition between us. In most cases, a lot of singers have thing thing about rivalry. But we don't. We respected each others' strengths and like... like the question you asked, how did we come to the song? We see what is ... usually we look at what is popular and what people like to hear and we pick the best vocal for that. We don't fight about it. Ann: What's nice about us is that Sheila has the high voice, I'm mid and she has the lowest voice. So when we get together to do harmony, its really nice. Yeah. Catherine: We really enjoy the harmony. We don't see much of it these days. You know. Ann: Back in the 70s, 80s, we used to do backup singing for some stars like Sudirman and who else? Sheila: Oh! I did for... Oh I can't remember now, man! Ann: That Chinese singer from... Sheila & Ann: What's the name? Sheila: That's why, can't remember now. Ann: So many singers. Sheila: Ya, so many. Ann: Some like to do harmony. Interviewer: What's your favourite Singapore song? Sheila & Ann: Singapore song? Sheila: Ok, I did a song written by Dick Lee. its called "Bunga Sayang". They released this was like a LCD that was released in 1996 if I'm not wrong, So I think that is one of the song that I always sing. So I think that's a very nice song actually. Ann: I used to sing songs by "Gingerbread". I wrote songs. But I think I like the one thay stick to my mind at the moment is "Home" also by Dick Lee. Catherine: Oh, I remember "Singapore Cowboy". Sheila & Ann: (sings Singapore Cowboy...) Interviewer: (sings Singapore Cowboy) Sheila: Ya, you remember... Ann: Woah! Thank God. nn: What song should we sing? something from ABBA? Sheila: just now... Ann: Sure, which one? Sheila: "Thank you" Ann: Ok. All: (Sings) So I say thank you for the music.... (memory collected from iremember Goes to Yuhua)
