I remember when I was 7 and living in a HDB 3 room flat, we had lots of neighbours & we'd regularly come downstairs to meet and play together. It would always be simple games like catching etc, but we would have loads of fun and on "special days" when we feel extra creative, things of nature would become our toys. Once we ever collected different leaves from different trees & operated a Chinese medicinal shop selling "herbs"!
