My father was born in Singapore in the year 1974. He used to live in a kampong located at Jalan Memplemam or known as Jalan Ubi. My dad mentioned that he would usually be taking public bus to travel to his school known as Kaki Bukit Primary School from his old attap hut. The old Kaki Bukit Primary School was renamed Bedok West Primary School when it shifted to its new premises located at 50 Bedok Reservoir in 1984. However, by the year 2015 it had been forced to merge to Damai Primary School thus Bedok West Primary School no longer exists. The old abandoned school premises had since bee used as a prison. In the past, there would be a bus conductor in each public bus to issue bus tickets to each commuter. Back then, the buses would be littered with chewed up gum. With the introduction of chewing gums ban, the littering problem ceased. Both of my parents work as hawker helpers at a hawker centre located in the geylang vicinity. Both of my parents enjoyed working there and his greatest satisfaction in life comes from being able to provide help for the needy people.
