30 Nov 2015 A Tribute to my “Future Mother-in law” who fed me durian for Breakfast ! When I was courting my future wife in the early 1980s, who lived in Punggol area at Lorong Buangkok of old Singapore. My wife’s family owned a farm with chickens, pigs and had one old Durian tree which bore few good durians during the season! There were occasions I had the opportunity to be invited by my now wife to stay at her home during the weekend. Not like present time, you can have durians practically whole round, her durian tree bored fruits only once a year in the order of mother nature. Although my wife has a big family of 3 brothers and 4 sisters, it was during one of those durian fruits bearing season that the durian tree bore few durians that may not be enough to feed the family. I was totally surprised when one Monday morning, whilst I stayed over the weekend that my future Mother-in law had served me durian for Breakfast! I deem it a great privilege to be treated like a ‘VIP’ for this tasty durian breakfast which I never expected it, instead of leaving it for her children. I was grateful of course and privilege to marry her eldest daughter and we have 3 children. I had a great time with my wife’s parent and family as my mother had left me early whilst I was doing my National service and it was my father who witnessed our marriage. Regrettably, my mother-in law had left us in 2013 and I really missed her as she was such a wonderful lady in my life. Thank you.
