Early - 1990s. I had such a irrational and inordinate fear of my school library, in particular the whole process of borrowing and returning books. Once, and only once, having successfully manoeuvred the machinations of borrowing a book, the terror of having to return the books compelled me to throw them through the library window and run away. I was soon informed of a $20 fine, which I tried to foist on my mum as late school fees. These were typically $19.50, so the game was soon up. I doubt I visited the school library ever again, though I'm now happily a frequent visitor to libraries, having undergone comprehensive counselling.
