My School Days in St Anthony's Convent. My primary school days dated back to 1958 when I entered St Anthony's Convent situated at Middle Road. School life was simple then. I would reach school by 11.30 am, had a game of rounders with my classmates before we prayed at our school chapel. There were no fanciful gadgets like PSP or computers. We were very contented with our simple games of rounders and 'five stones' or 'zero point'. After before school games, my classmate and I would patronise the ice ball stall for a taste of ice ball to cool us down. To cut cost, we would sometimes share the ice ball telling the Indian uncle to 'potong' the ice ball for us. As my school is a Catholic school, the month of May is devoted to doing penance 'good deeds'. Pupils would write their daily good deeds on pieces of paper, put into a basket decorated with flowers and offered it to Mary, mother of Jesus. So for the month of May, we were well-behaved and good! But going to chapel everyday was a daily ritual for me. I would pray at our school chapel during recess without fail whether during exams or not. Contribution from Fengshan Primary School.
