It is ironic that one of our friends in Sec 4/7, reportedly observed to have almost fainted at the sight of blood, is now a practicing doctor. But we shall never forget the time this doctor’s close friend keeled over, minutes before a dissection demonstration. It must have been the unfortunate combination of the pungent smell of chloroform, the lack of oxygen in the crowded biology lab and the sweltering midday heat. (Air-conditioning was a luxury then.) Thus just before the dissection demonstration was about to begin, the doctor’s close friend fell onto the hard floor of the lab with a fearsome thud! She was knocked out cold. She laid there, almost spread-eagled. Heads quickly shot back to check the sudden noise. A group of girls was seen surrounding a pony-tailed and unconscious Indian girl. Good advice was soon delivered: “Move back girls, give her air!” “Loosen her tie!” ”Someone fan her!” Thankfully our friend became conscious, not long after. She moaned something about her dream of being a doctor as something quite remote. Was that why she pursued law and effortlessly graduated from NUS law school? That incident must have had a definitive effect on her life…. I am still wondering if that is a good story, but this was something I remembered well. “Memories collected from the School Reunion Contest held from 15 July to 9 Aug 2012 in collaboration with SPH and sponsored by Singapore Flyer.”
