Information About

Contributed by: Liu Jin Quan 刘金泉, 73 Liu Jin Quan, 73, was a student of Hwa Chong Secondary School. He met his wife at a school party, where he fell for his wife at first sight. She was from a rich family and he was not as well to do, but as he quotes, “even though I knew that she was rich while I was poor, and our relationship should never have started, I still liked her like a fool because she was pretty.” Mr. Liu also recalls how two other guys were courting his wife at the same time, but ultimately, he was the one who won his wife’s hand. However, life after marriage was a bitter memory for Mr. Liu. Due to his irregular and long working hours as a nurse, he admits that he would often neglect his wife. However, at that time, his only thought was to earn more money so that he could give her a happy life. He had thought that she would understand him, but it didn’t occur to him that she didn’t, and this misunderstanding caused their relationship to drift apart. A few years after marriage, Mr. Liu found out that his wife was having an affair with another guy, a close friend of Mr. Liu. Dejected, he decided to let his wife go pursue her happiness while he has stayed single ever since. As Mr. Liu recounted his story, he says that he does not regret losing this love as they had never been meant to be. Mr. Liu still lives with a positive attitude and is not affected by his unhappy love memory. Interview done by Carys Hor and Lee Pei Yi from Nanyang Girls' High School on 30 May 2013.
