I love the simple kampong feel of Ubin. Even after being away from Singapore for over 20 years, it has retained some of its charms...the taxi uncles always look so relaxed and chilled as they lepak around the jetty. Still love the fact there are no large numbers of cars and despite the efforts to hijack the island for training camps :( the island still looks and feel like a kampong with lots of bird and animal life! Loved the walks the nature society used to regularly organise there, especially when the old school was still there. Most memorable visit was when my husband had to use the old fashioned loo out on stilts (over a 'pond') and didn't realise it had only basic plumbing! And not forgetting -the wild boar on hot plate we ate after! (Collected from HDB for SG Heart Map, an SG50 signature programme)
