Contributed by: Yong Hui Zhen, Belinda, 11, De La Salle School I’m really lucky to always have my maternal grandmother by my side. Although she often scolds me, I know that she still cares about me. My grandmother is about 67 years old this year. She had always watched me grow up from young. I remember one time when I really understood her care for me. This was what happened. That night, I was feeling unwell and went to bed early. That morning, I felt really unwell and kept calling “Grandmother…Grandmother…” However, when she answered me, I was too exhausted to answer her. When I woke up later that day, she had already made porridge for me. Then she gave me a big, juicy pear so that my fever can subside. She also was by my side for long hours so that she can change the towel that was on my head. She also always checks the time on the clock so that she can take note on the time that I should take my medication. My grandmother was such as wonderful lady except that she’s a little unwell and has to take about ten different kinds of medicine each day. I hope that I could “take care” of her and spend more time with her. She was also once a victim of World War 2 when the Japanese invaded Singapore. She often tells me about how cruel the Japanese were and the information that she gave have greatly helped me in my social studies work. I really hope that one day, she can learn English (although she knows a little now) and help me. I think that my grandmother is the most wonderful lady on the Earth and hope that she can stay forever with me. I Love You!
