Whenever satay & mee Siam are sighted. I first time I ever tasted satay was in my secondary school. My father brought us to a hawker stall in Balestier Road market after our Chinese New Year outing. That was the time I came to learn of satay-meat in a stick. My dad broke the norm by lunching out. My mum was very thrifty and insisted we lunch at home every year after our outing. I have never tasted such nice meat in my life, so was the mee Siam. We (my sister & I) used to buy from the Indian peddler who came as early as 6am, outside my house just opposite my primary school. Every morning, without fail, my sister & I will buy a 5 cents plate from him & always asked for more gravy. His gravy was superb, so thick with peanut taste. No other mee Siam could replace my palate because I can never find the same taste like before.
