When I was young, Pulau Ubin was an expanse where the sky reaches the sea. The opening up of the sky allows for the opening up of the mouth of the earth, where trees grow in clusters and their wild unfurrowed ways. And the arms of the ten-year old self open up her arms to embrace that piece of sky which characterised Pulau Ubin.
