Only the first 2 movements of this Symphony were completed, with only 9 bars of the scherzo sketched out for piano. The work, however, forms a satisfying whole. The 1st movement in Sonata form with its grim beginning and 1st subject soon gives way to the sunshine of the famous 2nd subject. The movement is full of Schubert's melodic and harmonic felicities. The slow movement, in abbreviated Sonata-form, is one of Schubert's most lovely creations and it ends the Symphony in content sublimity. This is an instrumental track.
