Alumni and Young Alumni Programme

What is it about?

The kidsREAD Alumni & Young Alumni programme is a new initiative by NLB to engage previous kidsREAD participants in nurturing the current children in kidsREAD and to also continue the reading journey of these graduates.

 

Who can join?

Previous kidsREAD participants who are:

  • Youths aged 15 and above for the kidsREAD Alumni Programme
  • Children aged 9 to 14 years old for the kidsREAD Young Alumni Programme


What will the Alumni and Young Alumni be involved in?

The Alumni and Young Alumni will be given various opportunities to shine.

These include:

  • Being a part of the Alumni Committee
  • Contributing to behind the scenes work such as planning and/or creating publicity materials for kidsREAD events/programmes
  • Representing kidsREAD through emceeing and/or conducting kidsREAD events/programmes
  • Attending training sessions and literary festivals
  • Mentoring Young Alumni (for Alumni) 

 

What are the various trainings provided to the Alumni and Young Alumni?

Alumni training:

  • Orientation
  • Public Speaking skills
  • Storytelling skills
  • Book selection skills
  • kidsREAD Club training (3 sessions)

Young Alumni training:

  • Orientation
  • Public Speaking skills
  • Storytelling skills 

 

What will the Alumni and Young Alumni benefit from this programme?

The Alumni and Young Alumni can look forward to:

  • Receiving Values-In-Action (VIA) Hours
  • Obtaining a letter of commendation/certificate of appreciation
  • Opportunities to develop leadership and management skills
  • Building confidence in public performance

 

What is the amount of commitment for this programme?

Participants are encouraged to plan and/or conduct at least one kidsREAD event and programme every year, in addition to their participation in the kidsREAD Volunteer Appreciation.

 

How do interested participants sign up for the programme?

If you are signing up through a kidsREAD Club coordinator, submit the softcopy of the completed Alumni & Young Alumni Programme form to them.
