Jurong

Once a landscape of mangrove swamps and plantations, Jurong was transformed in the 1960s into Singapore’s first industrial estate. The region was soon home to attractions such as the Jurong Bird Park, Singapore’s first and only drive-in cinema and the former Tang Dynasty City theme park. In the 1970s, the Chinese and Japanese Gardens were added and they remain well-loved recreational spaces today. Jurong is entering its next chapter as Singapore’s second Central Business District, anchored by the ambitious Jurong Lake District and supported by major developments such as the Jurong Innovation District and the Tuas Mega Port. Connectivity will be enhanced with the addition of two new MRT lines – the upcoming Jurong Region Line and the Cross Island Line.
