Did you know that Singapore had an import ban on comics in the 1940s, or that comics were blamed for the rise in juvenile delinquency? Associate Librarian Jacqueline Lee charts the ups and downs of the history of comics in Singapore, including the 1940s import ban and Singapore’s first comic convention in 1986. This talk features some of the earliest comics in the National Library’s collection, such as political cartoons in the magazine Straits Produce and our very own “Tarzan” in Malaya!
