Abstract
Maria, a spirited young woman, leaves the convent to become a governess to the seven young children of Captain von Trapp, an autocratic widower whose strict household rules leave no room for leisure. When she secretly teaches the children to sing, the captain sees their happiness and he begins to fall for Maria. But troubles lie ahead in the 1938 Anschluss of Austria.
