Abstract
The 60,000 odd Malays are spread all over Sri Lanka with over 20,000 living in Colombo, the capital. While other minorities in Sri Lanka are lumped conveniently and conventionally into the "others" category, Sri Lankan Malays have retained a distinct ethnic and religious identity, despite forming just 0.3% of the total population.
