Abstract
An ecological study was undertaken at three artificial caves in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve from 15th September to 30th December 1995. Various wildlife survey techniques were employed to qualitatively sample both the vertebrate and invertebrate fauna inhabiting the three cave systems. In addition, the faecal energy of the bat guano in CAVE 2 was determined calorimetrically. Ecological indices such as Jaccards Coefficient and the Group Diversity Index (GDI) were manipulated to compare the diversity among the three cave communities. A total of seven species of vertebrates and 22 species of invertebrates were recorded form the three caves. Results of the study show that CAVE 2 exhibited the highest diversity compared with the other two caves. The largest and possibly the only local population of Penthetor /ucasii roosts in CAVE 2. In addition, a genus of Thysanura found in the caves could be new to science and awaits further verification.."--First page.
