Abstract
Written By is a Kaufman-esque contemplation of the healing effect of writing. Melody's (Mia Yan) family was broken up by a car accident when she was 12 years old, blinding her and killing her father (Lau Ching-wan). A decade has passed and her mother (Kelly Lin) is still drowning in grief, so Melody, in order to cheer up her mom, decides to write a novel to reverse the fortunes of her family. She does that by making her father blind, and leaving her mother, brother and herself dead, in the fictional world. The process works, but only to an extent. As tragedy strikes again, Melody and her fictionalised father each seek to cheat death "or more precisely, Meng Por, the mythical God of Death in Chinese folklore" and bring the family together in the various dimensions. Ultimately, Written By plays like a grief management workshop that doubles back as a supernatural, and very melodramatic, fantasy. , 十年前的一次车祸, 让12岁的汤乐儿(Melody), 失去爸爸汤有亮(Tony)(刘青云饰), 自此跟妈妈程希文(Mandy)(林熙蕾饰)、5岁弟弟汤乐童(Oscar)相依过活, 十年过去, 长大了的汤乐儿(Melody)(阎青饰), 发觉妈妈依然非常挂念爸爸, 一直活在伤痛中, 决定跟妈妈和弟弟一起创作小说, 让妈妈寄情小说, 借小说疗伤, 让爸爸在小说中的世界"再生", 跟爸爸再一次"团聚"... 小说跟现实是一个相反的世界, 相同的车祸, 结果是爸爸活下, 汤乐儿跟妈妈和弟弟却在意外中死去, 爸爸同样非常挂念妻儿, 也想到寄情写小说, 创作出一个有鬼的小说世界, 让妻儿回来, 跟自己"团聚"... 写书, 可以满足看书人的梦, 也同时可以让写书人面对梦魇, 妈妈和爸爸在不同的世界, 逐渐从丧亲的伤痛中康复, 走出暗霾. 创作的世界可以随心所欲, 现实却是变幻无常, 妈妈和弟弟在突如其来的意外中死去, 独留汤乐儿一个活在世上, 愤怒、无助的汤乐儿, 执着要妈妈和弟弟"再生", 再一次借小说, 让妈妈和弟弟"再生"... 小说里, 汤乐儿挑战死神, 搅乱生死, 让阴阳永隔的一家四口, 在"往生的世界"围聚, 写作过程再一次发挥疗伤作用, 汤乐儿情绪得以宣泄, 最后终于放弃自杀. 虽然汤乐儿到最后还不知道, 谁定生死? 是谁在编写世人的命运? 世界是否有神? 有鬼?... 但却肯定知道: 已死的灵魂, 会因在生者对他们的思念而"再生"!.
