Abstract
A historical piece that revolves round the drought that took place in Henan Province, China, in 1942 which led to a severe famine that faced 10 million people to flee from Henan to the Shaanxi Province in order to servive. The film chronicles the perilous journey the refugees make as they way all the way to Shaanxi. Along the way some died of starvation while others are killed by the bombs from Japanese airplanes. Reliefs from the government come too late as high ruling officials are not aware of the actual situation in Henan. As a result, this leads to the death of about 3 million refugees. , 1942年,中国抗日战争处于战略相持阶段, 此时, 河南省遭遇大旱灾和蝗虫灾, 饿死300多万人. 老东家和佃户瞎鹿两个家庭亦只好如百万民众般离乡背井, 外出逃荒. 面对严峻灾情,国民党政府不但没有照顾灾民, 还要求河南省政府徵收军粮以供战役之需. 美国时代周刊记者白修德冒死深入灾区报导实况, 最终迫使政府开仓赈灾. 惟天灾人祸, 已把无数家庭拆散.
