Information About

Librarian Sundari Balasubramaniam and poet and writer KTM Iqbal reflect on the legacy of Munajathu Thirattu (‘Munajat’ means a private, intimate talk with God), the earliest Tamil work in the National Library’s collection, printed in Singapore in 1872. Written by Muhammad Abdul Kadir Pulavar from Nagore in Tamil Nadu, the book contains 55 poems and songs. One of these poems was dedicated to Sikkandar Sahib Oli, better known as Iskandar Shah, who is believed to be the last of five kings to rule over 14th-century Singapore. From the Stacks is series featuring rare materials of historical significance in the National Library Singapore’s collection.
