Information About

A general view of Nanyang Technolgoical University's Hall of Residence No. V. The building is designed for tropical living. It is made up of four rectangular residential blocks, a foyer and a dinnig hall. Each residential block can house up to 125 students and has a central courtyard. These buildings are built with a robust concrete frame that is clearly defined. The spaces between the concrete frames are filled with glazed metal windows, which are positioned behind the frame to create partial shade. Moreover, a significant recess is incorporated beneath the windows to enable proper air circulation within the rooms. This architectural approach can be likened to the modern version of the traditional 'monsoon window' concept. While all four residential blocks share a similar basic layout, they are distinguished by the varying colors of the panels located behind the windows.
