Abstract
During the early years of Singapore as a bustling trading port, a foreign trader leaves his violin with a local boy, who treasures the gift but leave it behind during the Japanese occupation. The violin survives the war but was left forgotten in an attic where it was re-discovered by a British family. The daughter of the family becomes a renowned violinist with the instrument and in her later years, passes it onto her grandson. The journey of the violin comes full circle when the new owner plays the violin along the Singapore river where the trader and the young boy met many decades ago.
