Abstract
"The scope of this collection of 48 artists (of almost 200 paintings) was a careful selection of eminent artists who grew up in the period after the second Opium War ended in 1860. This duration of approximately 100 years in the 19th and 20th century (from late 1800s to 1900s), known broadly as the Modern Chinese Art period, was a time of great change and innovations in the Chinese Ink art due to the opening up of China (after the Opium Wars) with its companying modernisation, the impact of Western art, the war with Japan (1937-45), as well as the civil war that ended in the establishment of the People's Republic of China, in 1949."--Page 20.
