This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. Lee Ek Tieng, Deputy Head (Jun-Oct 1994) and later Head of the Civil Service (Oct 1994-Sept 1999). He joined the Civil Service as an engineer at the City Council in 1958 and was transferred to the Public Works Department (1962-1970). Mr. Lee became Acting Permanent Secretary (Public Health) (1971-1972); Permanent Secretary for Environment (1975-1986), (Revenue Division) for Finance (Apr 1986-Oct 1989), and (Special Duties) in the Prime Minister’s Office (Oct 1994-Sep 1999); Head of Anti-Pollution Unit for the Prime Minister’s Office (Apr 1970-1983); Chairman of Public Utilities Board (Sep 1978-Dec 2000), Sembawang Shipyard Private Limited (1977-Dec 1986), Temasek Holdings (Jan 1987-Sep 1996), Singapore Island Country Club (Jan 1992-1995), and GIC Asset Management (Jul 2007-Jun 2009); Managing Director (Nov 1989-Dec 1997) and later Deputy Chairman (Jan 1998-Dec 2000) of Monetary Authority of Singapore; Managing Director of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (Nov 1989-Sep 2007); President of Raffles Country Club (1991-1995); and Member of the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore (1989).
