These are steps leading to the two-storey Kuo Chuan Science Building (国专科学馆) of Chinese High School (华侨中学) at 673, Bukit Timah Road. It was named after Mr. Lee Kuo Chuan, father of Mr. Lee Kong Chian, a Hokkien philanthropist and Chairman of Chinese High School Management Committee (1934-1954). The school was founded by Mr. Tan Kah Kee (陈嘉庚), a Hokkien philanthropist and community leader, in 1919. In 2005, it merged with Hwa Chong Junior College which was founded in 1974 to form Hwa Chong Institution (华侨中学). Title devised by Library staff.
