This is the single-storey wooden building at 106, Telok Ayer Street housing a branch of Ai Tong School (爱同学校). The building was the former premises of Gan Eng Seng School. Founded in 1912, Ai Tong School was first located in a Methodist Church building at 19, Boon Tat Street. It was relocated to 209, Telok Ayer Street in 1917. In 1929, Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, a clan association, took over the management of the school. In 1956, the main school moved into the premises of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan at 137, Telok Ayer Street. It became a government-aided school in 1957. The new premises at 2, Ang Mo Kio Street 21 was built, and completed in 1980. It was declared open by Mr. Ho Kah Leong, Parliamentary Secretary for Education, on 9 October 1981. In July 1992, it was relocated to 100, Bright Hill Drive in Bishan. Past principals include Mr. Koh Cheng Foo (1952-1971); Mr. Ting Beng Chin (1971-2000); Mr. Ng Keng Song (2002-2009); and Mr. Tan Yap Kin (Dec 2009-to date). Title devised by Library staff.
