"THANK YOU NUHEROES. In the current COVID-19 pandemic, the focus of the Diagnostic Imaging team at the National University Hospital (NUH) is to provide timely chest X-rays for patients. A swab test is the gold standard in diagnosing COVID-19 infection. The results are ready after 4–6 hours, while an X-ray result takes 1–2 hours in comparison. Clinical teams in the NUH Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) depend on these X-rays to decide how to manage suspect cases while waiting for swab test results. In the wards, radiographers perform chest X-rays for patients with COVID-19 infection to monitor their lung condition. These X-rays are done in the extended screening facility at EMD or by the patient’s bed in the wards using portable machines, to minimise the movement of patients. Despite the surge in the number of cases and short turnaround time, the team pressed on with fortitude and tenacity."--Contributed by National University Hospital, as part of the "Documenting COVID-19 in Singapore" collection community call.
