Birthday card made by Be Kind SG volunteers for resident of Moral Welfare Home. "I'm Sherry, founder of Be Kind SG, a groundup movement inspiring acts of kindness via micro-volunteering and raising visibility of our 'less visible' communities. Before COVID-19, we visited both Moral Welfare Home and THK Home for Disabled at least once monthly. Since February, all volunteer visits have been suspended. Hence, we had to turn to Zoom sessions with small groups of residents per session. During each session, we will have interactive elements like Pictionary game, singing performance, and upper body exercise. We have also incorporated live streaming from our local attractions, such as Bollywood Veggies, to bring the outdoors to the residents (as they are unable to go for outings). Our regular volunteers have been supportive by doing recce trips to the local attractions prior to the Zoom session. We also engage performers for a nominal fee and our volunteer have even put up a pet segment where his dog performed some tricks for the residents. It has been quite interesting as we would not have been able to perform this pet segment at the Homes. Our last segment will usually be singing a birthday song and we will send handcrafted birthday cards over for the residents. We also send some tea time refreshments to the residents once monthly for them to enjoy after our Zoom sessions. We hope to be able to resume in-person volunteering soon."--Contributed by Be Kind SG, as part of the "Documenting COVID-19 in Singapore" collection community call.
