This is a photograph of the volunteer firemen of the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) in full array in front of fire engines parked along the AFS depot on Serangoon Road. The depot was officially declared open by Sir John Nicoll, Governor of Singapore, on 2 October 1954. AFS was formed in March 1939 and disbanded in December 1961. The inset photo at the top left corner shows Serangoon Fire Station in 1988. Title devised by Library staff.
