This is a picture of a male student writing the Chinese characters "Boycott the examination" with red paint across the signboard of the Ministry of Education at Kay Siang Road. Thousands of Chinese school students boycotted the first Government Secondary Four Examination when the People's Action Party Government decided to change the Chinese school system from the 6-3-3 system (six years of Primary, three years of Junior Middle and three years of Senior Middle education) to the English school system of the 6-4-2 system (six years of Primary, four years of Secondary and two years of Post-Secondary education).
