This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Madam Chan Siok Fong, Chief Commissioner of Singapore Girl Guides Association (SGGA) from 1967 to 1977. SGGA started as a District of the Malayan Girl Guides Association (MGGA) in 1917. It separated from MGGA in 1953 and became a branch of Girl Guides Association of Great Britain, before rejoining MGGA in 1963 and separating again when Singapore achieved independence in 1965. The first SGGA headquarters was at Buyong Road (1941-1966). It subsequently moved to Clemenceau Avenue in 1966, before relocating to Bishan in 1998. SGGA was renamed "Girl Guides Singapore" (GGS) in 2004. Title devised by Library staff.
