Dr. Ferhat Abbas (with garland), Prime Minister of Algeria, shaking hands with Dr. Toh Chin Chye, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of People's Action Party (PAP). Also in the picture is Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew (extreme right), PAP Secretary-General. Dr. Abbas visited Singapore to seek support for the liberation struggle of the Algerian people against French colonialism. He received a warm welcome and moral and financial support from Singapore.
