This 1966 photograph shows the exterior of Peranakan house in Malacca. In front of the main door are the swinging doors (pintu pagar), typical of Peranakan residences. These doors allow in breezes while maintaining privacy. Part of a casement window can also be seen. The gilded plaque hanging above the door is called a ji hoo which indicates the family name.
