This 1960s photograph shows Orchard Circus, a traffic island roundabout, which fronted the Government House (now the Istana Negara) where Clemenceau Avenue cuts through Orchard Road. The Orchard area is named after William Scott's orchard. There were orchards, nutmeg plantations and pepper farms along Orchard Road in the 1830s. Title devised by library staff.
