This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Dr. Toh Chin Chye, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore from 1959 to 1968. He was co-founder and Chairman of the People's Action Party Central Executive Committee (1954-1981); Minister for Science and Technology (1968-Jun 1975), Education (2-15 Jun 1975) and Health (Jun 1975-Jan 1981); the second Chairman of the Singapore Polytechnic Board of Governors (1959-1975); Vice-Chancellor of the University of Singapore (1968-1975); and PAP Member of Parliament for Rochore (1959-1988). He was conferred the Order of Nila Utama (First Class) for his contributions to Singapore. Title devised by Library staff.
