This is my secondary school CCA jacket. I was in the Red Cross Youth CCA for four years. Having a CCA jacket was like a mark of pride – people would wear theirs when the weather was cold or when we had classes in airconditioned rooms. As our seniors’ batches were small, they didn’t have time to design a jacket for the CCA. It was only when my batch became seniors that we were willing and able to design a jacket for the CCA. We did different designs and then voted on it. One small regret I have not suggesting that we put ‘TKGRCY’ on the back, instead of ‘Red Cross Youth. (TKGRCY was the acronym of our CCA and I was more attached to it.) I think we wanted a ‘cool’ design that didn’t deviate too much from the norm, as this was our first opportunity to make a jacket. To me, the jacket is a symbol of the shared experiences we had in this CCA – from dreading our annual camp to marching in NDP together, Red Cross was truly the highlight of my secondary school life. -- Contributed by Alyssa Lim Shuyun, as part of the "Young Singapore" Contemporary Collecting initiative.
